Get a Tune-Up Now to Save Yourself Headaches Later!

A lot of people seem to think that HVAC maintenance is something you can put off. But don’t, the same way you shouldn’t put off car maintenance! Instead, you get your oil changed, check your tires, check lights, etc. So why is it that a sense of vigilance tends to disappear when it comes to preventative maintenance for your HVAC system?

Well, it comes down to three things:

  1. People don’t associate big, costly problems and emergency repairs down the line with something that maintenance today could have prevented!

Just like a car, your HVAC system has many parts that can wear down, and it gets a lot of “mileage.” Getting a tune-up is the best way to identify these worn-down or even broken parts before a system malfunction.

Also, a dirty A/C system is never a good thing. Part of what techs do during a tune-up is clean the whole unit and its components.

We’re not just talking about a dirty filter, which would allow allergens into your home (plus, the dirtier the air filter gets, the less efficient your A/C is in cleaning the air, because the airflow is decreased). We’re also talking about dirty evaporator coils, which also restrict airflow. In fact, if the evaporator coils get dirty enough, they can also corrode, causing a refrigerant leak. That means refrigerant vapors are getting inside your home, which can be harmful to your health! Another downside of a dirty evaporator coil is that it could cause mold or mildew to grow, because the coil is both dirty and wet. Again, breathing in air filled with these spores is really bad for your health.

Last but not least, a technician checks for leaks during a tune-up. Problems with air pressure could interfere with your A/C unit’s ability to generate heat and cool air in the proper range.

Cleaning the inside of the entire system with safe, biodegradable cleaners is one thing that’s best left up to the experts. Checking for leaks, and checking system pressures and amp draws, is even more difficult for an amateur to do.

This leads a lot of people to put it out of their mind and assume it’s not necessary, but soon, they could have a system failure and an emergency situation on their hands!

  1. People assume that A/C tune-ups cost a lot of money.

Another reason that someone might opt to skip a tune-up is that they think it’s going to be too expensive. But our tune-ups are only $99, because we’re celebrating our 50th anniversary! Our tune-ups include safety testing controls, wiring, and connections; gauging operating pressures, temperatures, voltage, and refrigerant levels; flushing the condensate line; checking the filter; checking the blower and blower motor; cleaning the condenser coil; and more, like giving you a printed report at the end!

  1. People just plain forget!

You may have every intention of tuning up your A/C system, but you just forget to call to schedule regular maintenance. If you want to add years to the life of your HVAC system, make it more efficient, and prevent emergencies, then consider becoming part of our maintenance program.
